A man surrendered to the members of law enforcement after strangulating his newly married wife to death during an altercation at Ghasipara village in Dinajpur Sadar upazila on Friday night. The victim has been identified as Sumaiya Aktar Hasi (27), daughter of one Abdul Khaleq from Sujalpur collegepara in Birganj upazila.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Dinajpur Sadar Circle Sheikh Md. Jinnah Al Mamun confirmed the matter to the media on Saturday.
“Monowar Hossain (33) came to the police station around 10:15 pm on Friday night (February 17) and surrendered himself after confessing to killing his wife,” said the ASP. Quoting locals, the police official said Monowar locked into an altercation with her wife around 4 am and later strangulated her to death.
It was known that Manwar hid his wife’s body in the wardrobe after strangling her on Friday morning. After hiding his wife for about 14 hours, he himself appeared at the police station and confessed to the murder.
Later, based on the information given by him, the body was recovered. The body has been sent to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
Following the death, victim’s elder brother Ishak Ali filed a case with Kotwali police station in Dinajpur on that night.
Monowar married Sumaiya Aktar Hasi on January 20 this year. Since their marriage, a family feud has been going on between them.
