Book fair draws huge book lovers in the weekend with vibrant presence of the people of all
ages on the Friday. Though the little magazine corner found fade with lack of attention, the other stalls were found full of visitors with enthusiasm.
Among those, Academia Publishing House Limited (APL)’s stall in Suhrawardy Udyan attracting buyers eye exclusively. Book lovers were collecting most discussed books from the APL. It was found after noon on Friday that huge number of people were screening books at the APL stall. Many of them purchased books from the stall. The APL has gave concessions from 20 to 40 percent prices of its books. There are huge collections of research based books including ‘Islam and
Economic Challenge’ by Dr. M. Umer Chapra, ‘Moulana Bhasani; Politics, Philosophy and Religion,’ of Dr. Md. Forkan Mia, Dr. Abu Bakar Md. Zakaria Majumder and Dr. Md. Abdul Quader’s ‘Major Religions of the World’, Syed Sazzad Hossain’s ‘Civilization and Society’, ‘Allama Iqbal Thought and Philosophy’ compiled and edited by Abdul Quader Jilani,
‘Phonology and Arabic Phonetics’ and ‘Linguistics and Arabic Linguistics’, written by AQM Abdus Shakur Khandkar, former Professor of Dhaka University,
‘Woman and Gender in Islam’ by Professor Dr. Azizun Nahar, Philosophy Department of Dhaka University and International Institute of Islamic Thought’s research book ‘Crisis in the Muslim’.
Little magazines, known as producer of new writers and which had a big acceptance and attraction, now have hardy been to get response from book lovers in the ongoing Amar Ekushey Book Fair.
Most of the stalls of this corner have remained closed at the working day and it also seen a greater existence relatively of them on weekend day.
“There are greater lacks of quality content as I see and they also failed to fulfill the readers’ demands. So, why will people keep their interest to the little magazine,” Sabbir Ahmed, student of Dhaka University said.
Abu Baker Saddique, Manager of Nobo Vabona, said, “Now everyone wants to be poet, novelist.”
“Little magazine has a history. But many people now have forgotten that the little magazine one day was the producer of poets and writers.
A total of 153 stalls were allocated to little magazines this year. It was152 stalls in 2020, 140 stalls in 2021.
Rofik, writer of Kobbo Kotha, said that people have become weak in mind. We, get less amount of writing than any other time.
The seventeenth consecutive day of the fair, however, opened at 11.00am. A number of 276 new titles were published on this day, making the total the number of new titles rose to 1,836.
A discussions titled ‘Birthday tribute: Syed Waliullah&’ was held at the main stage of Bangla Academy.
The fair will open at 11:00am today.
