No illegality in Shahabuddin’s appointment as president: AG

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin claimed that the appointment of Md Shahabuddin as the President of the country is totally legal and the procedure is beyond any question. While briefing to the reporters at his office on Wednesday the
Attorney General also claimed that the President is not an employee of the Republic.
Recently a legal controversy has been raised over the eligibility of Md Shahabuddin for the appointment in the post of President of the country. Many of the legal experts opined that Shahbuddin is ineligible to be appointed in the post as he performed as a Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Shahabuddin served as Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission since 2011 to 2016.
According to the Section 9 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, “On ceasing of hold office, a Commissioner shall not be eligible to hold any post of profit in the service of the Republic.”
