Bangladesh star opener Tamim Iqbal is set to miss the rest of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as he is suffering from an old back strain, confirmed by Khulna Tigers head coach Khaled Mahmud on Tuesday.
Khulna have two games remaining but they are already out of the play-offs race.
Bangladesh will play a home white-ball series against England from March 1. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will want to full fit Tamim in the World Cup Super League series as BCB don’t want to take any risk.
“Tamim has a little problem. The problem with his back strain is back and he is suffering again. Our team physio, the national physio Julian [Julian Calefato] is here, he also came to talk to me on the field today. As there is England series ahead, that is a big concern for us. That’s why we thought of give him break, it might be worse if he plays,” Sujon said to media.
He has also suffered a groin injury. Due to that injury, he did not play the series against India at home last year.
