Bumper mustard yield in Ishwardi

Mustard production is increasing in Ishwardi due to rise in price of edible oil in the market. The demand for mustard oil has also increased as compared to earlier. Besides, the price is satisfactory. As the weather has been favorable, there has been a bumper crop of mustard in Ishwardi this season. As a result, the smile of victory appeared on the face of the farmer. According to Upazila Agriculture Office sources, the target area for mustard cultivation in Ishwardi this season was 650 hectares. But the plantation has increased to 1190 hectares of land. The production potential target has been fixed at 1480 MT.
On the surface, it can be seen that the yellow color of mustard flowers is beautiful in the field. Mustard fruit is adorning the pre-cultivated land. Some have already started picking mustard from the field. Somewhere farmers are busy with mustard threshing. Farmers are more interested in mustard cultivation this season due to good prices in the local markets last season.
That’s why mustard has been planted on double the land of Lamatra this time. At present, mustard flowers and fruits are adorning the fields of Ishwardi.
Hanif Sheikh, a mustard farmer of Bharimaari village in Salimpur, said that it is a very profitable crop as mustard can be cultivated with less cost, less time and less effort. The cost of cultivation per bigha land is Tk. 3,500. He said that the yield of mustard will be available at the rate of 4-5 maunds in the current season.
Adam Ali, a farmer of Umirpur, said that mustard harvesting has started in some lands from the last week of January.
In the current market, mustard seeds are being sold at a price of Tk 3,500-3,800. Mustard plantation between Aman and Boro rice gives good profit to the farmer by getting extra crop. In addition to meeting the needs of oil in their families, some cash also comes in hand.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar said that due to the increase in the price of oil in the market, almost twice the amount of mustard has been cultivated this year.
The yield will also be bumper as the weather conditions are favorable till the end. So there is a feeling of happiness in the mind of the mustard farmer.
