BUET VC and Pro-VC Pays Deep Tribute to the Martyrs of the July Mass Uprising
On the occasion of the July Mass Uprising Day, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Eqramul Hoque and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam issued a joint statement. In the statement, they noted that the July-August of 2024 is a glorious and unforgettable chapter in national history. What began as a movement centered around the fair demands of students subsequently transformed into a symbol of the entire nation’s public aspiration for justice, non-discrimination and democratic rights.
The statement conveyed deep respect from BUET to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the historic July Mass Uprising. At the same time, they expressed sincere gratitude and respect to all those who were injured and bravely participated in the movement.
The statement mentioned that a university is not merely a center for the cultivation of knowledge; it is a vital foundation for developing independent thought, moral values, human dignity and responsible citizenship. They expressed the hope that the core spirit of the July mass uprising- equality, justice, human dignity and democratic rights- will be reflected in our education, research and daily activities.
They called upon all members of the BUET family to embrace the learnings and ideals of the great July mass uprising and play a responsible role from their respective positions in building a just, tolerant and prosperous Bangladesh.
Finally, they prayed for the salvation and peace of the departed souls of all the martyrs of the July mass uprising and expressed deep condolences to their bereaved families. They also expressed sincere sympathy to all members of the BUET community who were affected during the uprising.
