Argentina agrees in principle to open Embassy in Dhaka

The Argentine government has agreed in principle to open an Embassy in Dhaka, ushering a new horizon to strengthen the bilateral relations in the upcoming days.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Monday said that the Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero will visit Dhaka on February 26 or 27 and at that time a declaration may come about opening an embassy or consular office.
“Argentina has agreed in principle to open an Embassy here. The Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero will visit Dhaka in February. A declaration for opening an Embassy here in Dhaka may come during a bilateral meeting,” he said.
The Foreign Minister came up with the statement while talking to the journalists in his office in the Foreign Ministry on Monday. About the benefits of opening an Argentine embassy, he said, “If they want to open an embassy or consular office here, it is a plus for us.”
Argentina expressed its keen interest to reopen its embassy in Bangladesh after four decades of its closure following Bangladesh’s overwhelming support for Lionel Messi and the Argentina team playing in the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022.
At that time, Argentina’s Foreign Minister announced that his country would reopen an embassy in Dhaka following his visit to Bangladesh in 2023. The Argentina embassy in Bangladesh was closed in 1978.
