Case against journo Rozina court asks PBI, go for further probe

Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court on Monday asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for further investigation in the case filed against the Prothom Alo Senior Reporter Rozina Islam under the Official Secrets Act.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain of Dhaka passed the order, asking PBI to submit its probe report on February 28.
The court came up with the order as the complainant of the case Shibbir Ahmed Osmani submitted a no-confidence petition against the final report submitted by investigation agency Detective Branch (DB) of police.
DB on July 4, 2022, filed the final report in the case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka, pleading to relieve Rozina Islam of the charges. The Investigation Officer in his report said the allegations brought against the lone accused Rozina, were found to be false and he termed the case a matter of “factual error”.
Rozina, a Special Correspondent of the Prothom Alo, wrote several in-depth reports on corruption in the health sector during the Covid pandemic.
On May 17, 2021, Deputy Secretary Osmani, filed the case against Rozina Islam with Shahbagh Police Station over allegations of stealing and capturing photos of “highly sensitive” government documents.
