A complaint was filed with a court of Dhaka today against the Chief of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Harun Or Rashid, and nine others over “vandalising” BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on December 7, 2022.
Nazim Uddin, a member of BNP Executive Committee, lodged the complaint with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury of Dhaka CMM Court.
Other names mentioned in the petition included Additional Police Commissioners Asaduzzaman and K Mohiuddin, Joint Police Commissioner Hedatul Islam Khan, Assistant Police Commissioner Golam Ruhani and Ansar member Al-Amin. Some 200-300 unnamed police officers’ name were mentioned in the petition.
The court recorded the statement of the complainant, said Nazim Uddin’s lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukdar. In the incident one person was allegedly killed in police firing during BNP, police clash in Nayapaltan area. Over 150 leaders, activists were held in the incident.
However, the court did not give any order in the case immediately, said Arman Hossain, bench assistant of that court. Later, the court rejected the petition.
On December 7 last year, a Swechchasebak Dal leader was killed and around 50 others were injured in a clash between BNP activists and police in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office, ahead of its December 10 rally.
Police arrested 470 BNP activists and leaders in connection with the clash and they were sued in two cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel Police Stations.
