Locals bring out broom procession demanding removal of Sarishabari UNO

News Desk :
Locals in Jamalpur’s Sarishabari upazila brought out a broom procession for the removal of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of the area Upoma Farisha.
The procession, attended by hundreds of people, was brought out under the banner of the Nagarik Committee on Saturday.
They alleged that UNO Upoma Farisha is involved in corruption and accused her of 30-40% of commission trading, abuse of power, stealing, and starting a fire at her office to hide illegal activities.
The fire was reported on April 16 last year. However, the probe body formed over the incident ruled that the fire was from an electric short circuit.
The locals also accused the UNO of stealing documents from the upazila
land office and the neighbouring Kamrabad union land office on the night of December 18 last year. They alleged the theft took place to hide her anomalies.
The speakers at the procession noted that a general diary was filed in this regard, but the police have taken no action yet.
Moreover, they also alleged that media workers requested to know about the matter under the Right To Information Act, 2009, but the UNO did not provide any documentation about the government department, in order to cover up her irregularities.
UNO Upoma Farisha could not be reached over the phone for comments.
Meanwhile, Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner Srabosti Ray said: “I do not know actually know about the matter. I will look into it.”
Convener of Sarishabari Nagarik Committee Shahidul Islam, Joint Convener Abdul Jalil Master spoke in the human chain, among others.
