Miraz makes dream debut in CPL

Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a dream debut in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Wednesday.

Powered by Miraz’s spell and a five-wicket haul from 47-year-old Imran Tahir, the Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the Saint Lucia Kings by 4 wickets at Providence in West Indies on Wednesday. Mehidy Hasan Miraz captured three wickets in the space of 13 runs.

Electing to bat first, Saint Lucia Kings scored 119 in the 18.5 overs.
In reply, Guyana Amazon Warriors romped home making 122 for the loss of six wickets when they had nine balls to spare.

Miraz joined the CPL during the last stages of the tournament, with only eight matches remaining in total. He joined Guyana Amazon Warriors as a replacement for Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, who left the CPL to play in the T20I series against India.

Nabi was one of Guyana’s key performers and their leading wicket-taker, having claimed 13 wickets in 7 matches. Filling his performance was never going to be easy for Miraz, yet the Bangladeshi spinner made a magnificent start.

At Providence, Miraz struck in his very first over, dismissing John Campbell off the final ball of the seventh over; Campbell was caught at long-off after attempting to hit a flighted delivery. In his third over, he claimed the wickets of Kemol Savory and Charith Asalanka.

Savory fell victim to an LBW decision, though a review would have saved him; replays later revealed that the ball was not hitting the stumps. Miraz’s third victim, Asalanka, was dismissed after edging the ball to wicketkeeper Shai Hope.
