BNP leaders Salam, Annie released from jail

BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Abdus Salam, also convener of the party’s Dhaka South city unit, got released from Keraniganj jail on Wednesday.
BNP’s Publicity Affairs Secretary Shahid Uiddin Chowdhury Annie also got released from jail, said Syrul Kabir Khan, an official of Khaleda Zia’s press wing.
BNP leaders and activists greeted them with flower petals and garlands in front of jail gate, where scores of party supporters were in cheering mood.
Earlier on Monday, the High Court granted BNP leaders Abdus Salam and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie six months’ interim bail in a case over the clash between police and the party activists in the capital’s Nayapaltan on December 7 last year.
The HC bench of justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and justice Shahed Nuruddin passed the bail order.
The court issued a rule questioning why the BNP leaders should not be granted permanent bail.
Both of them were arrested from in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office on December 7 last year.
