Afia-Shorna lead BD U-19 to their second win in WC

Afia Prottasha and Shorna Akter hit fifties to lead Bangladesh U-19 team to their consecutive victory in the inaugural women’s U-19 World Cup (WC) as they beat Sri Lanka by 10 runs in South Africa on Monday.
The junior Tigresses stunned Australia by 7 wickets in their first game, and their second consecutive victory means they are the top favorite to advance to the next round as group champions.
On Wednesday, Bangladesh will face the United States in their final group match.
Prottasha hit 53 off 43 balls with five fours and three sixes, while Shorna demonstrated her power-hitting ability with a 50 not out from 28 balls as Bangladesh women’s batted first and compiled a hefty 165-2.
They then restricted Sri Lanka to 155-4 for a famous victory.
After Prottasha gave the side a whirlwind start, Shorna smashed three fours and two sixes in her innings, helping the side pass the 150-run mark. Misty Shaha, Prottasha’s fellow opener, was run out for 14.
Dilara Akter contributed 36 off 27 in an innings that included three fours and one six.
Marufa Akter took 2-19 to destroy Sri Lanka’s batting order. Despite this, Sri Lanka remained in the hunt thanks to captain Vishmi Gunaratne’s 60 not out and Dewmi Vihanga’s 55.
They kept the team on the verge of victory, but the Bangladeshi youngsters held their nerve in the dying overs to help the team record yet another stunning victory.
