Half-yearly monetary policy on the cards
Business Desk :
The Bangladesh Bank is planning to unveil the country’s half-yearly monetary policy statement (MPS) next week, despite several targets last set for up to December have gone missing largely for global and local disruptions.
The monetary policy targets were actually meant for containing the inflationary pressures on the economy, which surged significantly higher — even touching nearly 10% during the last few months of the last calendar year, up to December.
Official statistics show the broad money program up to December last was 10% and up to November it had stood nearly 2% over June 2022.
Net foreign asset target set in the monetary policy statement (MPS) announced last June was -10.7%.
