Taqsem A Khan, the Managing Director and CEO of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA), has denied the allegation of buying 14 houses in USA.
He said, “the report published in a national daily on Monday about my ownership of 14 houses in the USA is hundred percent false and intentional. I have no house there, not even an apartment. The only apartment in the USA is owned by my wife.”
In a press conference on Tuesday, Taqsem A Khan revealed his position in a recent media report indicating that he owns over a dozen of houses in the US held at the city’s Dhaka WASA office in Karwan Bazar.
Taqsem said his wife holds a government job in the US, and his family members have been American citizens since 1995.
“My wife and children are well established in the USA, so buying a house there isn’t too difficult. There is a house in my wife’s name. It can’t be called a house either it’s an apartment.”
“I have never taken illegal money in my life. I am proud to say this. I am not ashamed of all the complaints.” Managing Director said.
While addressing the previous allegations and criticisms the Managing Director of WASA said “There have been various reports about me. But all of them have already been proven false. So they are all untrue and ill-motivated.” ”Those who haven’t getting any immoral benefits from WASA are mainly behind it.”
However, the WASA MD, invited some selected journalists and it was seen that the entrance of newsmen in the WASA Bhaban was restricted for other journalists at the press conference. Security guards there were allowing newsmen as per list. At that time, newsmen from print, television and online media were waiting to attend the press conference. After waiting, many newsmen came back from the gate of WASA Bhaban.
Earlier on Monday, the High Court ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to scrutinize the allegations brought against Wasa MD for purchasing 14 houses in the USA by Taqsem A khan. The apex court asked the ACC to submit the progress report about the issue before the court within 15 days.
