5 of a family burnt in cylinder explosion in Dhamrai

Five members of a family were burnt after a gas cylinder exploded at a house in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka district on Saturday morning (January 7).
The victims have been identified as garments worker Manzurul Islam, 32, his wife Jochna, 25, 18-month-old daughter Marium, Sadia Akhter, 18, and Hosne Ara, 30.
After the incident, they were rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. They all are now undergoing treatment there.
Relatives of the burnt said the explosion occurred from gas line leakage when Jochna tried to lit the gas stove early hours for cooking. The fire soon spread to the house that left four other family members also injured.
SM Ayub Hossain, a resident surgeon of
Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said, of the five, the condition of Manzurul with 33 per cent burns and Jochna with 40 per cent burns is critical.
Three others were put on observation, he added.
