BCL takes position at Shahbagh to counter BNP
DU Correspondent :
The ruling Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists took position at Shahbagh in the capital yesterday to counter the BNP’s mass procession.
The BCL sources said that they planned the sit-in programme to foil the JCD’s arson and violence scheme.
The BNP brought out the procession from in front of its Nayapaltan central office in support of the party’s 10-point demand, including the resignation of the government and restoration of caretaker government system.
The BCL’s central and Dhaka University units gathered in front of the National Museum shouting slogans against Chhatra Dal and Shibir. DU unit BCL President Mazharul Kabir Shayan and General Secretary Tanvir Hasan Saikat led the programme.
Some BCL leaders said that the Chhatra Dal and Shibir may come to the campus to create anarchy. So they took a position and held a sit-in programme.
Besides, over two hundred of BCL leaders were also seen racing motorcycle on the campus and nearby to stop the BNP and Jammat men’s presence.
“There is an attempt to create terrorism and anarchy. The country managed to continue its constitutional and democratic progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. But the BNP and Jamaat are conspiring to impede this advancement. The student body considers it a moral responsibility to confront them,” BCL President Saddam Hossain said.
