India earned a 2-0 clean sweep in two-match Test series defeating Bangladesh by three wickets in a thiller on the fourth day of the second Test match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Sunday. Earlier, India beat Bangladesh by 188 runs in the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on December 18.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh scored 227 in their first innings on the first day ( Thursday).
In reply, India piled up a mammoth total of 314 in their first innings on the second day (Friday).
Later, the home side scored 231 in their second innings on the third day (Saturday).
India scored 145 for the loss of seven wickets on the fourth day (Sunday).
The visitors resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 45 for the loss of four wickets.
Axar Patel and Jaydev Unadkat resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 26 and three runs respectively.
Unadkat could add more 10 runs as he was trapped leg before wicket by Shakib Al Hasan when India’s score was 56 for the loss of five wickets.
Then, Mehidy Hasan Miraz struck as Rishabh Pant (9) was trapped leg before wicket by right-arm spinner when the tourists’ total was 71 for the loss of six wickets.
India were under pressure when Axar Patel was bowled out by Miraz when the touring side’s score was 74 for the loss of seven wickets.
Patel made a polished 34 from 69 deliveries with four fours.
After dismissal of Patel, Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin guided their team to reach the target.
Ashwin’s innings could be short-lived as he was dropped by Mominul Haque on just one run.
Iyer and Ashwin contributing together 71 runs for the unbroken eighth wicket partnership.
Aswin remained unbeaten with 42. His 62-ball innings was decorated with four fours and a sixer. Ashwin was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match winning innings.
Iyer remained unbeaten with 29 runs. His 46-ball knock was studded with four fours.
Miraz was the day’s most successful bowler. He finished his superb spell as 19-4-63-5.
Shakib bagged two wickets for 50 runs.
