7 food businesses fined Tk10 lakh, 7 cases filed

Seven food establishments were fined a total of Tk10 lakh and seven cases were filed under the Food Safety Act during mobile court operations across Dhaka and several districts in the past week, the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority said.

The enforcement drives were conducted from August 9 to 15, 2026, as part of nationwide efforts to protect public health and ensure food safety.

The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) conducted mobile court operations, market and food establishment monitoring, and public awareness campaigns during the week.

In Dhaka Metropolitan, authorities conducted drives at seven establishments, fining three businesses a total of Tk4 lakh and filing three cases under the Food Safety Act, 2013.

Mobile courts were also conducted at four establishments in Brahmanbaria, Moulvibazar, Dhaka and Manikganj. The operations resulted in Tk6 lakh in fines and four cases.

Altogether, seven establishments were fined Tk10 lakh and seven cases were filed during the week.
Alongside enforcement drives, the BFSA continued monitoring food establishments across the country. A total of 130 food establishments were monitored during the period, including markets, hotels and restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, and food production and processing facilities.

The monitoring was aimed at strengthening oversight and ensuring compliance with food safety standards. A seminar titled “The Role of Local Stakeholders in Stopping the Sale of Open Edible Oil” was held in Joypurhat on August 14, organised by the BFSA with support from the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh.

Food Ministry State Minister Abdul Bari attended the seminar as chief guest and inspected the activities of the BFSA’s mobile laboratory van.
