The government has been urging the international community to press the major powers to start the process of safe, dignified and sustainable Rohingya repatriation to their homeland Myanmar.
Bangladesh has been bearing the burden of hosting over 1.1 million Rohingyas since their exodus in the middle of 2017 after being persecuted by the Myanmar Army in Rakhine State.
Since the inception of the crisis, the government of Bangladesh has been calling the international community and regional forums to end the problem by creating huge pressure on Myanmar, as the Bangladesh government said, the security in this region will be unsettled if the crisis lingers.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday called upon the delegation of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) to increase diplomatic efforts with major powers to resolve the crisis.
He made the remarks when an 11-member delegation of the PUIC, including members of parliaments from Tukiye, Iran, Uganda and its Secretary-General, led by Prof Dr Orhan Atalay met Dr Momen at the State guesthouse Padma.
The Foreign Minister profoundly appreciated the contribution of the Committee on Muslim Communities and Minorities for depicting the pictures of the persecuted Rohingyas to the members of the OIC.Reaffirming their continued support for resolving the Rohingya crisis, the PUIC delegation thanked the Government of Bangladesh for hosting persecuted Rohingyas on humanitarian ground.
Over five years have elapsed since the Rohingya crisis, but the Myanmar government has been delaying the repatriation process despite their commitment to take them back.
Over time the incidents of crimes and terror activities have been taking place in the camps which signals the deterioration of the security. The government said that Myanmar has created the crisis and they have to resolve it.
Earlier on December 20, the delegation paid a visit to Rohingya Camps in Cox’s Bazar and had interactions with the persecuted Rohingyas and concerned stakeholders.
Apart from this, they also met Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on December 19 as part of their visit.
