Bangladesh lost to India by 188 runs in the first Test match on the fifth and final day at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday.
Winning in the coin-session, India decided to bat first and piled up a mammoth total of 404 in their first innings on the second day (Thursday).
In reply, Bangladesh scored 150 in their first innings on the third day (Friday).
India declared their second innings making 258 for the loss of two wickets on the third day and set a target of 513 runs to win for Bangladesh in the second innings.
Bangladesh made 324 in the second innings on the fifth day. Debutante Zakir Hasan notched up his maiden century in the second innings.
Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 272 for the loss of six wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 40 and nine runs respectively.
Miraz could add more four runs as he was caught at the backward point by Umesh Yadav off Mohammed Siraj when Bangladesh’s score was 283 for the loss of seven wickets.
After Miraz’s dismissal, Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam put on together 37 runs in the eight wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan was bowled out by Kuldeep Yadav when the hosts’ total was 320 for the loss of eight wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan knocked a superb 84. His 108-ball innings saw six sixes and six fours.
Shakib Al Hasan reached his 30th fifty-run land-mark in Test cricket playing 80 deliveries with three fours and four sixes.
After Shakib’s departure, Ebadot Hossain (0) was caught at the short leg by Shreyas Iyer off Kuldeep Yadav when the home side’s score was 324 for the loss of nine wickets.
Number-9 batter Taijul Islam (4) was bowled out by Axar Patel when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Kuldeep Yadav was the day’s most successful bowler. He claimed three wickets at the cost of 73 runs.
Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav captured five wickets in the space of 40 runs. Kuldeep was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
The second Test between Bangladesh and India will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium from December 22 to December 26.
