Tanker-CNG collision kills four in Sylhet

Four people, including three members of the same family, were killed and two others seriously injured when an oil tanker truck collided head-on with a CNG-run autorickshaw in Sylhet’s Osmaninagar upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 2:30pm in the Brahmangram area on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, according to police.

The deceased were identified as Niamat Ali, 32, his wife Hazufa, 28, their four-year-old daughter Ayesha, and autorickshaw driver Lalon Mia.

Niamat, son of Gafur Mia of Ashtagram upazila in Kishoreganj, had been living in Sriramsi area of Jagannathpur upazila in Sunamganj. Lalon was the son of Farid Mia of the Sherpur area.

According to locals, the CNG-run autorickshaw was travelling from Sherpur towards Sylhet. When it reached Brahmangram, it collided head-on with an oil tanker coming from the opposite direction.
The impact left the autorickshaw badly mangled.

Local residents rescued seven people, including the driver, in critical condition and rushed them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Doctors there declared four of them dead.

The two injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police Station, confirmed the deaths and said necessary legal action was being taken over the accident.
