Centering BNP rally: AL and its associate bodies take position on city roads

Leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League (AL) and its associate organisations were seen guarding roads, lanes and streets in the capital on Saturday in a view to deal with any kind of mayhem centering the BNP rally.
The AL activists also took position in almost all areas viz. Bangabandhu Avenue, Shyamoli, Dhanmondi-32, Asad Gate, Dhanmondi-27 intersection, Science Laboratory intersection, Mohakhali, Tejgaon, Mirpur-01 & 10 circle, Gabtali, Uttara, Abdullahpur, Kuril, Rampura, Badda, Old Dhaka, Postogula, Kadamtali, Jatrabari, Demra, Aminbazar, Mirpur 14 and Panthapath in the city.
Besides, ruling party members checked belongings of commuters and asked personal questions on the different entry and exit points of the city.
Apart from this, BCL activists were seen guarding the university areas including Dhaka University Shaheed Minar and Shahbagh intersection.
However, a divisional mass rally of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was held in city’s Golapbagh play ground on Saturday braving all obstacles.
Several thousand members of law enforcing agencies were deployed across the city to prevent any untoward incident centring BNP rally.
The commuters were seen to reach their respective destinations by walking due to lack of public transport in and around city.
Several party leaders had earlier announced to remain on city roads to
resist any kind of destructive acts of the BNP during its Dhaka rally.
The AL and its front organisation leaders and activists occupied roads at different points by setting temporary sheds and organising small gatherings as well as bringing out processions chanting slogans against the opposition BNP.
Some of them carried sticks in their hands.
Bangladesh Juba League brought out a procession at the party’s central office in Gulistan’s Bangabandhu Avenue.
Activists of Dhaka University unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League were checking vehicles at the entry point of the DU at Kataban.
They also staged showdown by motorbike and the motorcycle procession paraded almost all the roads on the campus.
A good number of activists of AL’s associate organisations were seen in Motijheel areas guarding the road in front of the Bangladesh Bank by holding cricket stumps.
Some leaders and activists of Awami League are on alert and took position at different roads and alleys in Dhaka from Saturday morning as BNP is holding its last rally at Golapbagh playground.
They also brought out small processions and held meetings.
The leaders and workers of Metropolitan North and South are occupying different spots.
Almost no public transports on the streets all around the city, due to BNP’s rally at Golapbagh.
