Mozammel granted HC bail over Rubel Murder
The High Court (HC) has granted bail to former Awami League organising secretary and former lawmaker from the Shariatpur-1 constituency, B M Mozammel Haque, in a case filed over the murder of garment worker Rubel in Adabar, Dhaka, during the July mass uprising.
A High Court bench headed by Justice K M Imrul Kayesh passed the order on Thursday.
Lawyer Md Liton Mia appeared for Mozammel Haque, while Assistant Attorney General Jasim Uddin opposed the bail on behalf of the state.
Mozammel Haque was arrested from the Niketan area of Dhaka in October 2025. He was subsequently sent to jail in the case filed over the murder of garment worker Rubel in Adabar during the July mass uprising. Eight cases were filed against him with different police stations in Dhaka over alleged attacks during the July movement.
According to the details of the Rubel murder case, on the day the Awami League government fell, several hundred students and members of the public, including Rubel, brought out a protest procession in the Ring Road area of Adabar. At that time, police and leaders and activists of the Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechhasebak League, Sramik League, Tanti League, Krishak League and Matsyajibi League allegedly opened fire.
Rubel sustained bullet wounds and was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, Rubel’s father, Rafiqul Islam, filed the murder case with Adabar Police Station.
