People getting back normal life after BNP rally
Staff Reporter :
People are getting back their normal life with the ending of the BNP rally yesterday.
Due to high security ground, people experienced checking at different strategic points in the capital and even the vehicles had also undergone the search.
The law enforcers said that such measures were taken to ensure people’s safety and it made the capital almost deserted.
Earlier, the government and the police administration said that BNP was not allowed to hold their rally in front of their party headquarters at Naya Paltan under the excuse that it would create much suffering for the people.
But it was alleged that steps taken by the law enforcers to ensure security for people left them to suffer ultimately as their movement was restricted.
Even BNP in the rally at Golapbag playground said that police itself intensified the suffering of people by blocking the Naya Paltan area and setting up check posts at different areas.
Addressing the rally, BNP Standing Committee Member Goyeswar Chandra Roy said, “We held rallies in nine divisions peacefully. Even today we are holding it peacefully. The government said that our rally would intensify sufferings of people. But now the Paltan area is under police surveillance.”
He also said that the government itself has enforced hartal and intensified the sufferings of the people.
However, the tight security measures were relaxed to some extent after BNP’s rally and the long route buses started leaving the inter-district terminals to different destinations.
Long-haul buses of all routes like Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal started leaving the capital around 4pm.
“We have opened the counter at 4pm. We were somewhat panicked owning to the rally. So no bus left the terminal. Even passengers were few in the last two days. As no violence occurred, we have started operating the buses,” a manager of Shyamoli Paribahan at Saydabad Md Sumon said.
Salamat Ullah, a counter staff of Himachal Paribahan, said, “The counter was closed since morning. We have opened it in the evening. As passengers’ turnout was low, no bus left the terminal in the morning. We have started operating buses again.”
A Khulna-bound passenger Mazidul Haque, who was standing at Sayedabad Bus Terminal, said that no buses were leaving the terminal since morning. “I have got the bus in the evening. Now I am heading for my district.”
Meanwhile, no bus was plying on the city streets since morning and it made people suffer. However, some bus commenced its operation in the evening.
