BCL appoints controversial men in Hall committees

Some students who were allegedly involved with robbery, sexual harassment and torturing and even some who were expelled by Dhaka University administration for violating rules have been given posts in the recently announced DU Hall committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
On scrutiry, it has been exposed that about 27 of them have been recruited against ethics and morality.
General students are of the view that it will worsen the environment and themselves will commit misdeeds.
On April 4 of this year, Bijoy Ekattor Hall administration has expelled six students from the hall for beating two students in the room. But all of them have been given posts in the Hall committee.
Masfi-Ur Rahman has been nominated Deputy Secretary of Plan and Programmes, Shafiullah Sumon as Deputy Secretary of Cultural Affairs, Naimur Rashid as Mass Communication and Development Secretary, Sabbir Al Hasan Quayyum as Disaster and Relief Management Secretary, Mohammad Firoz Alom Opi as Deputy Secretary of Training Affairs, and Abdullah Al Maruf as Deputy Secretary of Student Scholarship.
Sajibur Rahman, President of the Hall, said, “Hall administration did not expel them from the hall. Just their seats were cancelled. Both the victims and the accused went to the provost office and negotiated the matter.”
In 2018, DU administration expelled Samiul Islam Sami, Ahsan Ullah, Ruhul Amin Bepari, Mehedi Hasan Himel and Fardin Ahmed for two years for beating a student at Salimullah Muslim Hall.

Among them, Fardin Ahmed and Ahsan Ullah nominated as Vice-President, Samiul Islam Sami as Joint-Secratery and Ruhul Amin Bepari as Organisation secretary in the Hall unit BCL.

Apart from this, Al Imran has been given the post of joint secretary, Yasin Arafat Plaban and Yasin Al Shahin as Organizational Secretary. But all of them have been accused of torturing students.

On August 4 this year, Tushar Hossain snatched once’s bike, mobile and cash money after beating. Later when the victim filed a case, Tushar returned the snatched goods to the victim and reached a compromise at the police station. But he has been nominated as Vice-President of Masterda Surja Sen Hall unit.

Another leader, Mahmud Arpon has been made Vice-President who suspended by the university administration for beating up a female student on July 15 in 2018.

Sheikh Maroof Hossain Sujon has been made Vice- President of the Hall, who was expelled from the university for his involvement in the “Gha” unit question paper leak in 2018.

In the Sir AF Rahman Hall, Samiuzzaman Sami, who has been made Joint Secretary, who was expelled by BCL and has also been accused of looting in the university campus and its surrounding areas.

In case of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, BCL appointed Sheikh Shanto Alam as Relief and Disaster Management Secretary, Nahidul Islam Fagun as Deputy Secretary of Law, Imdadul Haque Bandhan as Diputy Secretary of Cultural Affair, Ariful Hossain Shubo as Secretary of School Student. But both of the students was beaten up a student of the Hall this year.

Apart from this, Pallab Rana Parvez, who accused of extortion, harassment, robbery, has been made as Employment Secretary. He was reportedly expelled from the university for one year.

In Hazi Muhammad Hall, Imran Islam Imon has been made as Employment Secretary, Shakwot Shuvo as Religious Secretary, Shakwot Hossain Shanto and Shamin Rahman as Joint-Secretary and Shoriful Islam as Deputy Student Scholarship Secretary. But they were beaten a student of the Hall recently and hall administration is also investigating this.
 
Saddam Hussain, General Secretary of the DU unit BCL, “Those who have been in politics for a long time, dedicated and clean image students they have been given post in the committee. If any irregularities are found, we will take action.”
