30 bus cos to sell e-tickets in capital from today

All bus companies in Mirpur area will take passengers through e-ticketing starting from today.
Besides, e-ticketing will be launched in all of Dhaka city by 31 January and in Dhaka and surrounding districts by 28 February, said Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association Secretary General Khandkar Enayet Ullah in a press conference on Saturday (12 November).
Khandaker Enayet said that sufficient manpower have been appointed to manage the e-ticketing system.
Besides, a monitoring cell comprising two officials has been set up in Dhaka to resolve the complaints and problems of passengers, he added.
He said that three hotline numbers will be used to report complaints. The hotline numbers are 01618933531, 01618936185, 01870146422.
There are 30 bus companies in Mirpur. 60 bus companies in the capital and 37 bus companies in the suburbs accumulated to 97 bus companies. There are a total of 5,650 buses in Dhaka and its suburbs. Among them, 3,014 buses ply within the capital. The rest branch out to Dhaka and surrounding districts and upazilas.
Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association Office Secretary Samdani Khandkar, Managing Director and Chairman of various bus companies and leaders of Mirpur, Fulbaria, Syedabad and Gulistan labour unions were present at the press conference among others.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association is set to launch e-ticket services for buses owned by 30 companies in Dhaka today (Sunday).
All companies that operate 3,314 buses in the capital will come under the e-ticketing system by Jan 31, the association’s General Secretary Khandkar Enayet Ullah said at a media briefing on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com
“The initiative will help address issues, such as excess fare, chaos and accidents in the transport sector.”
Enayet also noted that around 5,650 buses operated by 97 companies from outside Dhaka and its suburbs will come under the e-ticketing system from Feb 28.
The drivers will no longer be allowed to operate buses on contracts. The move will help to tackle competition between two vehicles, according to Enayet. The authorities initially launched e-tickets on Dhaka buses on Sept 22. The service is currently available on eight buses in Dhaka.
