Ensure safe food for all stressed

Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA), a unit of Food Ministry , has arranged a district level awareness seminar on Ensure Safety Food ‘ at Art Council Auditorium in Kishoreganj Town on Saturday.
Md.Ismail Hossain, NDC , Secretary in Ministry of Food attended as chief guest and BFSA Chairman (Additional Secretary) Abdul Kaiqume Sarker and Zila Parishad elected Chairmen and District Awami League president advocate Zillur Rahman were special guests, while Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kishoreganj Mohammad Shamim Alam presided over. It was addressed among others by BFSA member & Project Director Monjur Morshed Ahamed, Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr. Saiful Islam, CAB District President Alam Sarowar Tito, its General Secretary Monowar Hossein Rony, Karimganj UNO Pulok Kumar Boshu, Katiadi upazila chairman dr.Md.Mystique, Chamber President Mujibur Rahman Belal and UP chairman Iftekaruddin Rajon.
Food Secretary Ismail Hossain said that he can’t consider the unsafe food as foodstuff. The food which causes disease cannot be food.” The only the production of safe food can create the scope for exports because of its credibility.
He also stressed the need for laboratory test to ensure safe food because the food can be unsafe from the production level to the consumers’ tables.
Emphasising the need for public awareness, the Secretary said, “Only enforcement of law or fine cannot bring any solution to food safety. Those who are exporting processed foods should be aware of food safety.”
The government has decided to set up laboratories in the eight divisions across the country, he said adding that there will be eight mobile van labs and an agreement has been signed with JAICA for setting up international standard testing lab.
