The Marriage ceremony of two handicapped young girls, Tanzila and Shristy was held with great enthusiasm at training and rehabilitation center for socially handicapped girls in Barishal at Rupatali of the City on Saturday. Chairman of the Revenue Board, Divisional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of four districts of Barishal division, along with administrative officials, public representatives, journalists and representatives of civil society, attended the ceremony . Probation Officer of District Social Services Office Sajjad Parvez said that resident of Social Disability Center, Tanjila Akhter’s house is in Tulatli area of Ghosair Hat Upazila of Shariatpur and Srishti Akhter’s house is in Palashpur area of Barishal Sadar Upazila. Three years ago these two socially disabled girls came to our training and rehabilitation center for disabled girls. Since then they are given various trainings including sewing. And finally today they were officially and socially married. He said, Tanjila and Srishti’s marriage was arranged in the same way as a child of a family is given in marriage. Starting from seeing the brides and bridegrooms, wearing yellow, the main ceremony of the wedding, giving gifts in cash and kinds, were done in a grand ceremony. As a result, the entire center was in the mood of wedding festivities without missing anything. He also said that the surprising thing is that socially disabled Tanjila Aktar can do everything normally from speaking, but she is marrying a farmer and speech-impaired Rezaul Sardar of Nagarbari village of Agailjhara upazila of Barishal.
On other hand hearing impaired Shrishti Akter is getting married to Obaidul Mridha, a resident of South Morakathi area of Wazirpur, Barishal and an autorickshaw driver. The interesting thing is that we found the families of our two daughters before the wedding and they were present in this wedding. In this regard, Barisal DC Jasim Uddin Haider said, all of the training and rehabilitation center for socially handicapped girls are our girls. It is a pleasure to be able to marry my two daughters in such a grand manner. On the other hand, Shrishti Akhtar explained through sign-language about being happy in marriage even she can’t talk. Tanjila said, pray for our two sisters. I can speak but my sister can’t speak. The one who is going to marry me can’t speak, but my speech impaired sister’s husband, can speak.
