Barrister Rafique played outstanding role in democratic advancement: CJ

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique on Monday said that Barrister Rafique Ul Huq, a former Supreme Court lawyer, had played an outstanding role in the democratic advancement of the country even though he was not involved directly in politics.
Terming the deceased lawyer as a philanthropist, the Chief Justice said his contribution to the welfare of people will be written in golden letters.
The Chief Justice said this as the chief guest said at a discussion programme organised by the ‘Ad-din Foundation’ in memory of former Attorney General Barrister Rafique Ul Huq on the occasion of his second death anniversary.
Former Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain attended the programme held at the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) auditorium as the chief discussant. Appellate Division judges, Justice Md Nuruzzaman, Justice Obaidul Hassan, Justice Borhanuddin, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Supreme Court Bar Association President Momtaz Uddin Fakir, senior lawyers Yusuf Hossain Humayun, A F Hassan Ariff, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Dr Sheikh Mohiuddin, Executive Director of the Ad-din Foundation, presided over the programme.
Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain said Rafique Ul Huq never slacked off in fulfilling his professional duties. He was an institution, said the former Chief Justice, adding that he had an immense role in protecting the image of the judiciary.
