The BNP will hold demonstrations across the country, except in Khulna division, on Thursday to protest against the harassment of the party leaders and activists and wholesale arrest.
The programme has been called for protesting harassment of the party men in false cases, police raids on the houses of opposition leaders and workers, sending them to jail despite the bails they obtained in different cases and continued torture on them by the musclemen of the ruling party.
BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the fresh programmes at a press conference in the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Tuesday.
As part of the protests, the party men will hold rallies and stage demonstrations in all divisional cities, including Dhaka, and district units on the day.
Rizvi, however, said Khulna city and all districts under the division will remain out of the Thursday’s central programme as the party is scheduled to hold a public rally in Khulna city on Saturday.
Replying to a query, the BNP leader said that Dhaka south and north city units of the party are likely to hold a rally on Thursday in front of the Nayapaltan central office.
Meanwhile, the party announced to hold public rallies in 10 divisional cities in protest against the killings of the party men and filing of cases against its leaders and activists, price hikes of fuel and daily essentials and demanding the unconditional release of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The party already held two massive rallies in Chattogram and Mymensingh while the third one will be held in Khulna on Saturday next.
BNP leaders alleged that many BNP leaders and activists were attacked, arrested and implicated in fabricated cases centering the two massive rallies in Chattogram and Mymensingh.
