The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka on Monday held a symposium marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), with Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen highlighting the party’s development and calling for closer exchanges with Bangladesh’s political parties.
Prime Minister’s Adviser Md Ismail Zabihullah, BNP Vice Chairman Altaf Hossain Choudhury, Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr Syed Abdullah Md Taher, Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Leader of the Opposition Mir Ahmad, MPs Najibur Rahman and Dr Mosleh Uddin Farid, leaders of major political parties, representatives of think tanks and academics attended the event.
In his keynote address, Yao elaborated on Chinese President and CPC General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech marking the party’s 105th anniversary. He said the CPC had grown from around 50 members at its founding in 1921 to more than 100 million members, becoming the world’s largest ruling party.
He said the CPC had led China through industrialisation, rapid economic growth and long term social stability, describing these as achievements made possible under the party’s leadership.
According to the ambassador, Xi identified six defining qualities behind the CPC’s development: an unwavering pursuit of truth, close ties with the people, a strong sense of historical mission, the ability to adapt to changing times, readiness to struggle and continuous self reform.
Yao said these qualities had enabled the party to lead China’s modernisation and national rejuvenation.
Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s recent official visit to China, Yao said the two countries had agreed to build a China Bangladesh Community with a Shared Future in the New Era and had signed 13 cooperation documents.
He said the Communist Party of China and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party also signed a memorandum of understanding during the visit, giving fresh momentum to inter party exchanges and cooperation.
“The CPC is willing to engage in mutual respect with all political parties in Bangladesh, promote practical cooperation in poverty reduction, agriculture, digital economy and infrastructure, and jointly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries,” he said.
The ambassador also said China firmly supports Bangladesh in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and opposes external interference.
Describing bilateral ties as being at their strongest point in history, Yao said the recent visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had opened a new chapter in relations between the two countries.
“As China Bangladesh relations enter a new Golden Fifty Years, China stands ready to work with Bangladesh to translate the outcomes of this visit into momentum for economic and social development, and better benefit the two countries and peoples,” he added.
Participants congratulated the CPC on its 105th anniversary and expressed hope that Bangladesh and China would continue strengthening cooperation and advance the building of a China Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.
