Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited celebrated the 59th birthday of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who was assassinated brutally in 1975. The birthday of Russel was celebrated by placing wreaths on his grave and performing different religious activities. The officials of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra celebrated the 59th birthday of Sheikh Russel by cutting a huge Cake and performed pray at the Sheikh Russel Sports Complex premises in Bashundhara residential area of the capital.
On Tuesday at 11.00am, floral wreaths were placed at the grave of Russel in the Banani Graveyard on behalf of Sayeem Sobhan Anvir, chairman of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra, also the managing director of Bashundhara Group. Special prayer was also performed expecting the eternal peace of Sheikh Russel on this day.
After that, at around 12:30pm, a cake was cut on the occasion of Sheikh Russel’s birthday at the head office of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited in Bashundhara residential area. Tabarak was also distributed followed by a Milad Mahfil. Besides, in the evening, food was distributed among the orphans at Sobhanbagh Jame Masjid.
In these programs, Chief Director of Sheikh Russel Sports Circle Ismat Jamil Akand, Director (Finance) Md. Fakhruddin along with other directors, life and permanent members and other officials of the club were present.
Sheikh Russel, the younger son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman and younger brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on October 18, 1964 at the historic Bangabandhu Bhavan in Dhanmondi of Dhaka city. Later on August 15, 1975, along with other family members, Russel also lost his life to the merciless bullets of the assassins. He was a fourth grade student at the University Laboratory School. According to the government decision, Sheikh Russell’s birthday is celebrated as ‘Sheikh Russel Day’. The main theme of this year’s Sheikh Russel National Day was – “Sheikh Russel is a symbol of serenity, bold, lively and fearlessness.”
