Police on early Sunday filed a case naming 23 leaders and activists of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and 350 to 400 unnamed others for obstructing police in performing their duties during a clash between activists of the ruling Awami League and the BNP on Saturday evening.
Kotwali model police station sub-inspector Jahirul Islam filed the case, said the police station officer-in-charge Shah Kamal Akand.
He said that an incident of chase and counter-chase took place between the activists of the BNP and the AL at the city’s Krishnachura Chattar after ending a rally of the BNP.
He also added that three police personnel and some AL activists were injured during the clash.
The OC said that they were investigating the incident.
Earlier, on Saturday, people from different districts under the Mymensingh division joined a mass rally of the BNP in the divisional headquarters despite various obstacles created by ruling Awami League activists and the police. The clash at the Krishnachura Chattar occurred following the rally.
