Seven shops gutted in Khulna market fire

At least seven shops were gutted in a fire in Borobazar area of the city Wednesday.
Fire Brigade sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop in Borobazar, adjacent to Bhairab Stand Zutapotti Ghat, under Sadar Police Station in the city and soon engulfed the adjoining shops on Wednesday.
Deputy Director of Khulna Fire Brigade Md Saleh Uddin said on information, seven fire fighting units in Khulna rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after one hour of frantic efforts with the help of local people.
Azizul Islam, president of Borobazar clothes owners association told BSS, that except 10 to 12 shops, most of the shops were shut due to Dashami today, the final day of Durga Puja festival in the busiest Borobazar. That’s why the extent of damage was less, he added.
