Woman killed in Sylhet road crash

A woman was killed in a road accident at Beanibazar upazila in Sylhet on Wednesday. The deceased was Milan Begum, 48, wife of Shafiqur Rahman, a resident of Uttar Dubag village under Dubai union. According to local sources, Milan Begum was walking along the Biyanibazar-Sylhet Road in Mewa area. At that time, a Sylhet-bound private car hit Milan Begum, leaving her dead on the spot. Later, being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet M A G Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
One held with home made wine

Police of Fakirhat Model PS (in Bagerhat district) seized home made wine from a parcel packet sent through Fakirhat branch of Sonargaon courier service and arrested one Tito Majumdar (28) in connection with the matter on Tuesday. In this connection SI Rafiqul Islam lodged a case with the PS under Narcotic Act as the plaintiff at Tuesday. It is known from the police that some one Mohsion sent the wine from Dhaka to M/S. Modina Fish through Sonargaon courier service. But there is no such a business establishment in Fakirhat. On the day afternoon acting on secret information the police seized the wine from a parcel packet sent through the courier service. Later, the police identified thw man whose mobile number was written on the parcel packet and arrested the man named Tito Majumdar from Kalkalia area under the Upazila. In the faced of interrogation Tito Majumdar confessed that he had brought the home made wine from Dhaka.
World Teachers’ Day observed

The World Teachers’ Day was observed in Rangpur through different programmes. Bangladesh College Teachers’ Association (BCTA) formed a human chain in front of the DC office on Wednesday. Principal Akam Zainul Abedin, Vice Principal Abdul Baten, Assistant Prof Abdur Rahman Mintu and others spoke under the chairmanship of Rangpur District Branch President Principal Monowar Hossain. On the other hand, a colorful procession started from Rangpur Press Club premises of Bangladesh College University Teachers Association (BCUTA) and ended at Town Hall premises after circling the main road of the city. After the procession, a discussion meeting on World Teachers’ Day was held at Rangpur District Art Academy.
Three business establishments fined
A team of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) in a drive here realised Tk 18,000 as fine from the owners of three business establishments for various irregularities in different areas in Sadar Dokhhin upazila on Wednesday. Sources concerned said the team led by assistant director of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) in Cumilla Md Asadul Islam conducted the drive at Amania Hotel and Restaurant in New market area, fined Taka 5,000, for violating hygiene rules, at Minerva Hotel, fined Taka 3,000 for violating hygiene rules and City Pharmacy in Sadar Hospital area, fined 10,000 for storing and selling date expired medicine in Sadar Dokhhin upazila of the district, reports BSS.
The business establishments were fined Tk 18,000 for various irregularities and violation of the Consumer Rights Protection Act-2009.
Members of the law enforcement agencies assisted in the operation team.
All are instructed to buy and sell at the rates set by the government in accordance with the Consumer Rights Protection Act.The drive would continue in the district, Islam added, reports BSS.
