BADC, CCC renew MOP fertiliser deal

Bangladesh has renewed an agreement with Canada to import up to 600,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser in the 2026-27 fiscal year, strengthening efforts to maintain adequate non-urea fertiliser reserves for farmers.

The agreement between the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) was renewed on August 13, 2026, under a state-to-state arrangement.

The renewal was completed under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture at a hotel in the capital, as the government seeks to ensure timely and balanced fertiliser supplies to farmers across the country as part of its modern and smart agricultural management strategy.

Under the renewed bilateral agreement, Bangladesh will import 600,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Canada during the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Of the total, 480,000 metric tonnes are confirmed, while an additional 120,000 metric tonnes will be available as an optional quantity.

The agreement is aimed at building an effective reserve of non-urea fertiliser and ensuring uninterrupted supplies for farmers.

The government has said timely access to balanced fertiliser is essential to supporting agricultural production and strengthening modern farming practices nationwide.

BADC Chairman Md Azizul Islam signed the renewed agreement on behalf of the corporation.
Agriculture Secretary Md Selim Khan and representatives concerned from both Bangladesh and Canada were present at the signing ceremony.
The agreement continues the existing state-level arrangement between BADC and CCC for importing MOP fertiliser from Canada.
