13 houses, shops of indigenous people torched in Rangamati

Bangalee settlers on Tuesday torched at least 13 houses and some shops of indigenous people over damaging a pineapple orchard at Chouddamile in Naniarchar on Tuesday.
Locals said, the Bangalee settlers went berserk in the morning after seeing that their some 4.5 lakh pineapple plants were damaged and 20,000 Segun trees cut off on Monday night by unknown miscreants.
They later set fire to 13 houses and some shops of indigenous people of the area apparently accusing them of damaging their orchard. During the attack, traffic on Rangamati-Khagrachhari road was also disrupted.
As the tension between the indigenous people and the settlers heightened, the local administration put the law enforcers on high alert to fend off further trouble.
