National Weightlifting Championship begins today

UNB, Dhaka :
The 34th National Senior, 15th National Junior, 11th National Women’s and the First Masters National Weightlifting Championships, organised by Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation, begins here today (Tuesday) at the NSC gymnasium.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder will inaugurate the four-day meet Tuesday noon, although the competition will begin in the morning.
Some 200 lifters from BGB, Army, Air Force, Ansar, BJMC, Police and Bangladesh Jail will compete in eight men’s weight categories -65, 62, 69,77. 85. 94. 105 and 105 plus kgs and seven women’s weight categories-44, 48, 53, 58, 63, 69 and 69 plus kgs.
Four age group competitions –35 to 45 years (A); 45 to 55 years (B); 55 to 65 years (C); and 65 years plus (D) — included in the First Masters Weightlifting Championship.
Meanwhile, national sports award winning weightlifter Budyut Kumar Roy will retire after participating in the meet to end his 26 years colourful career.
