Asst attorney general relieved from duty

Staff Reporter :
The government has relieved Supreme Court lawyer Marufa Akhter from the post of assistant attorney general (AAG) without showing any reason.
The appointment of Marufa Akter as Assistant Attorney General of Bangladesh on October 19, 2017, has been cancelled and she has been relieved from the post of AAG under the directive from the President, said a notification of the solicitor wing of the Law Ministry issued on August 2 this year.
Law Minister Anisul Huq said that Marufa met the wife of the Chief of Army Staff by her designation without permission from the authorities concerned, which is a “gross misconduct”.
Therefore, Marufa has been dismissed from the service of the Assistant Attorney General, he added. The Law Minister, however, refused to give any details in this regard.
Meanwhile, Marufa Akhter said, “While going to the Dhaka CMH (combined military hospital) to visit one of my relatives I stopped my car to buy breakfast from a shop near the office of the wife of Chief of Army Staff. Then I out of my curiosity wished to meet with her, but I could not get the scope.”
This is not a corruption or professional misconduct, claimed Marufa Akhter.
