Police nab 33,000 nationwide

Bangladesh Police arrested 32,908 people in an ongoing special operation conducted across the country between May 1 and July 12. Additionally, 83,817 people were arrested in other cases and operations during this period.

This information was released in a press statement from Police Headquarters on Monday.

During the special operations, police recovered 243 firearms, 2,313 rounds of bullets/cartridges, 88 magazines, 43 cocktails (crude bombs), 2 kg of gunpowder, 503 homemade weapons, 18 weapon parts, 17 sets of equipment for making weapons and bombs, and 10,300 chocolate bombs (firecrackers).

Among the recovered firearms were 76 pistols, 30 shooter guns, 33 “LG” (local guns), 18 revolvers, 50 shotguns/guns, 15 pipe guns, 4 shotguns, 2 rifles, 2 SMGs, 12 air guns, and 1 pen gun.

Police also seized 7,640,276 pieces of yaba, 8,284 packets of heroin, 3,186 bottles of Phensedyl, 6,835 bottles of foreign liquor, 354 bottles of local liquor, 5,336 packets of cannabis, and other narcotics and related substances.

Police Headquarters said 14,157 cases were filed and 20,439 people were arrested in connection with drug recoveries.
