RAB prepares database of 40,000 criminals

Staff Reporter :The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has prepared a database of 40,000 confirmed criminals across the country.The database contained 150 types of information, including their names, photographs and picture of eye’s pupil, addresses, professions, fingerprints, DNA samples and criminal records, among others.These will help the law enforcers arrest criminals from any part of the country.State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP, inaugurated the database at the RAB Headquarters in the city’s Uttara on Thursday morning. “Cyber crimes have been increasing day by day. The criminal database will help us address such crimes,” minister said.A code number has been opened for a criminal and all data preserved therein will be visible on the screen when the button will be pressed, he said. RAB members in their effort to prepare the database, collected information about the criminals detained for criminal cases after visiting 64 jails out of 67 (except three jails in Chittagong Hill Tracts), RAB sources said. The criminals include top listed ones, militants and extremists, The catalog has been prepared with the database of national identity cards with permission from the Home Ministry.It is underway to attach the database with Machine Readable Passport (MRP) database and in near future it will also help get BRTA driving license and digital registration.Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hassan Mahmud Khandker said, “RAB is a specialized unit of police to deal with special work. It has already achieved success in doing so.””The RAB has been working with fame since its inception. The database has played a significant role in eliminating crimes from the country,” said Director General (DG) of RAB Mukhlesur Rahman.
