BGB seizes Tk 347.81cr smuggled goods

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth Tk 347.81 crore in August 2026 during drives conducted in border areas and other parts of the country, according to a BGB statement.

The seized items included 8.554 kg of gold, 21,646 sarees, 5,154 pieces of ready-made garments, 606,241 cosmetic items, more than 1.04 million fireworks, 104,494 kg of coal, 17,130 kg of tea leaves, 8,715 kg of betel nuts, 418 mobile phones, 34,111 mobile phone parts and 34,057 kg of fertiliser, said in a press release.

BGB also seized 4,711 cubic feet of timber, 8,628 cubic feet of sand, 56,622 kg of cumin, 18,960 kg of garlic, 7,972 kg of sugar, 604,788 pieces of various medicines, 180,000 shrimp fry and other goods.

The force recovered 14 trucks and covered vans, 10 pickups, six private cars, three trolleys, 61 CNG-run vehicles, easy bikes, autorickshaws and handcarts, 91 motorcycles, 83 bicycles and vans, and 97 boats allegedly used in smuggling.

In separate drives, BGB recovered 14 locally made and foreign pistols, 10 magazines and 74 rounds of ammunition.

The force also seized a large quantity of narcotics, including 4,593,863 yaba tablets, 4 kg of crystal meth (ice), 1,371 bottles of Phensedyl, 7,636 bottles of foreign liquor, 345 litres of locally made liquor, 1,756 cans of beer and 1,863 kg 680 grams of cannabis.

Other seized narcotics included 228,039 narcotic tablets and injections, 22,006 bottles of various syrups, 10,643 other tablets, and 126,661 packets of bidis and cigarettes. BGB detained 220 people allegedly involved in drug trafficking and other smuggling activities.

It also detained 37 Bangladeshi, six Indian and 188 Myanmar nationals for allegedly crossing the border illegally.

Legal action was taken against those detained, the statement said.
