Areas in capital face power cut

People from the capital city faced load shedding on Tuesday, as the authorities decided rationing of electricity to avoid energy crisis across the country.
“We have no electricity from 3:00pm to 4:00pm in my residence in this hot weather,” said Fahmida Ahmed, a home maker in Gandaria in the capital on Tuesday.
She said people of her area faced the similar bitter experience.
Similarly, people from Tejgaon area in the city said that they experienced an hour-long outage from 10 to 11:00am, while residents of Niketon area shared that their area was without electricity from 11:00am to 12:00pm on the day.
People from Banani area said that they had not electricity for an hour from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister’s energy advisor Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury announced that the government made a plan to resort to two hours of power cuts daily to tackle the energy crisis affecting electricity generation in the country.
He declared it after a high-level meeting in the Prime Minster’s office on Monday,
Meanwhile, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid informed journalists later in the day, the revised decision of one hour of load shedding daily.
The State Minister said, “We will go for an hour of power cut area-wise, daily across the country, to start with. If needed, the decision will be revised after a week.” Following the government’s decision, different power distribution companies including Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited and Dhaka Electric
Supply Company Limited – published their area-wise outage plans.
The government also announced different measures for saving electricity, including closure of shopping malls and markets from 8:00pm, restricted use of air-conditioners.
It also making plans to limit office hours and keep fuel outlets closed one day every week for saving country from crisis of power.
