Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team Shakib Al Hasan clarified the causes of defeat in Antigua Test. Visitors Bangladesh lost to hosts West Indies by seven wickets in the first Test at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on Sunday.
After the match, Shakib explained the causes of defeat. Shakib talked to the journalists at a press conference on the same day.
Shakib said, ” The bowlers didn’t get any support from the batters as the batters suffered disaster. Our bowlers bowled really well. I have no dissatisfaction with the performance of our bowlers including spinners and the pacers. We faced batting debacle again and again. All the bowlers bowled extremely well. They showed a better brand of bowling display. All the bowlers gave their best effort. Everyday they tried to do their best in the field. So, I am not
disappointed with our bowlers. Our batting performance was the main cause of our defeat.”
Shakib revealed the failure of batting was the main cause of our poor performance. The top order batters failed as the three batters were dismissed for 16 runs. Then, opener Tamim Iqbal and middle order batters tried to resist against the superb bowling attack of West Indies. After the tea-break, Bangladesh lost three wickets around seven deliveries. A number of six batters returned to the pavilion before failed to open their account of run. Thus, Bangladesh were dismissed for 103 runs in the first innings.
The ace all-rounder said, ” The coin-session acted a vital role. We could not complain about toss. Because the toss was not our grip. However, we had to bat well after lost in the coin-session. The wicket was tough for our batters to show a good batting display. But if our batters could perform attentively, we would not loss our good number of wickets in the first session. The first session made it difficult to fight in the match.”
Earlier, in the prize-giving ceremony, Shakib said, ” It was not acceptable of our batting debacle. We faced batting collapse in the last four or five Test matches. The batters have to find out how they can settle in the pitch. Our batters should be attentive and they have to improve their performance.”
