Bangladesh lost to Sri Lanka 1-0 in the two-Test series as the hosts tasted a 10-wicket defeat to the tourists in the second Test on the fifth and final day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh made a massive total of 365 in the first innings on the second day (Tuesday).
In reply, Sri Lanka piled up a mammoth total of 506 in the first innings on the fourth day (Thursday).
Later, Bangladesh were all out for 169 in the second innings on the fifth day.
Chasing 29 runs to win, Sri Lanka romped home making exact 29 for the loss of none on the final day.
Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 34 for the loss of four wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 14 runs and one run respectively.
Mushfiqur Rahim could able to add more nine runs on the fifth and final day as he (23) was bowled out by Kusan Rajitha when Bangladesh’s score was 53 for the loss of five wickets.
After Mushfiqur Rahim’s dismissal, Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan fought back scoring together 103 runs in the sixth wicket stand before Litton Das was caught & bowled by Asitha Fernando when the home side’s total was 156 for the loss of six wickets.
Litton Das notched up a patient 52. His 135-ball innings saw three fours. It was Litton’s 13th half-century in Test cricket.
After Litton’s departure, Shakib Al Hasan was caught behind by Niroshan Dickwella off Asitha Fernando when Bangladesh’s score was 163 for the loss of seven wickets.
Shakib knocked a fine 58. His 72-ball innings had seven fours. It was Shakib’s 27th half century in Test cricket.
After Shakib’s dismissal, Mosaddek Hossain (9) was trapped leg before wicket by Ramesh Mendis when the hosts’ total was 169 for the loss of eight wickets.
After Mosaddek’s removal, Taijul Islam (1) was trapped leg before wicket by Asitha Fernando when the home side’s score was 169 for the loss of nine wickets.
After Taijul’s departure, Khaled Ahmed (0) was bowled out by Asitha Fernando and Bangladesh’s second innings came to an end.
Asitha Fernando captured six wickets at the cost of 51 runs, while Kusan Rajitha bagged two wickets for 40 runs and Ramesh Mendis took one wicket for 20 runs.
Later, opener Oshada Fernando remained unbeaten with 21 runs, while opener Dimuth Karunaratne remained unbeaten with seven runs.
Asitha Fernando claimed altogether (4+6)=10 wickets in the space of (93+51)=144 runs and was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Angelo Mathews was adjudged the Player of the Series scoring 344 runs in the two Test matches.
