Loan scam
NBL clarification
Staff Reporter :
The authorities of the National Bank Limited (NBL) have issued a clarification to a report published in The New Nation on November 8, 2014 titled “Dissolve NBL Board, Bank officials ask BB”.
In its clarification on Sunday, the NBL authorities claimed that the report contained “some incorrect
and inaccurate” information about loan disbursement by the bank and also about the role of the NBL board.
The clarification said about the role of the top executives of the NBL in disbursing loans to certain companies was also misleading.
“No bank loan was sanctioned to any companies without any proper documentation. All the loans so far disbursed by the NBL were in compliance with the banking norms as well as in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Bangladesh Bank (BB),” it added.
While the NBL sanctions any loan, all the proper processes are followed and the loans are processed by the top executives of the bank. Under the Banking Companies Act and Bangladesh Bank (BB) regulations, it is impossible to issue any loan ignoring or bypassing the bank’s top executives, it claimed.
The report of the constitution of the NBL board violating the Banking Companies Act, is also untrue, unrealistic and baseless as there is no scope for such practice in any bank under the existing process and Banking Companies Act, it said. The clarification signed by Shamsul Huda Khan, Managing Director (Current Charge) further claimed that there is no incident in the NBL to divert any loan to any of the NBL directors’ companies.
Our Correspondent say: The report was based on an inspection report of BB carried out recently on the NBL.
