Chapainawabganj, one of the worst-hit frontier districts in Rajshahi division, has seen a sudden rise in the Covid mortality rate, reports UNB.
In the past 24 hours, four persons have succumbed to coronavirus, officials said on Saturday. During the period, as many as 32 people have tested positive for Covid.
The Covid-19 positivity rate in the district currently stands at 11.26 percent.
A total of 3,076 people have been found infected with the virus in the district to date. Also, 66 people have so far died of Covid-19 in the district. To date, 1,800 people have recovered.
Some 55 Covid-19 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the Corona unit of Sadar Hospital.
After the end of a 14-day strict lockdown in Chapainawabganj, the local administration imposed restrictions on public movement to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission on June 8.
The new restrictions will remain in force till June 16.
Meanwhile, four people died from Covid-19 and 21 were infected in 24 hours in Thakurgaon.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mahfuzar Rahman said, four persons from four upazilas died from coronavirus while 21 tested positive out of 46 samples tested in 24 hours. In the last 11 days, 13 people had died from Covid-19 in the district, reported our correspondent.
In May 2021, 46 out of 330 samples tested were detected with Covid-19 infection but in June, the number of detections stands at 228 out of 612 samples, Mahfuzar added.
So far, 1,915 people have been diagnosed with the virus in the district. Of them, 1,596 people recovered. The death toll from Covid-19 reached 49 today in the district, he said.
According to the civil surgeon, 22 people were detected with Covid-19 on June 7, 30 on June 8, 39 on June 9, 43 on June 10, and 21 on June 11.
The district and police administration set up check posts in each entry point of the district to make sure people are following health guidelines properly, said Mahfuzar.
Earlier, four more people died of coronavirus in Jashore district in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning.
The district administration has continued the campaign to implement the lockdown announced in Jashore and Nawapara municipalities to prevent coronavirus infection.
The detection rate of coronavirus in the district for the last 18 days is alarming. In the last 24 hours, 133 samples were tested and 35 were identified as coronavirus positive.
Jashore General Hospital supervisor said the pressure of patient admission has increased. A record number of patients have been admitted with coronavirus symptoms in the last 24 hours which is double than the allotted number of beds, he added.
At present there are 64 people admitted in Corona Dedicated Unit while 42 people in Isolation Ward.
Additional District Magistrate Kazi Mohammad Sayemuzzaman said, “The rate of identification is low today as the rate of sample collection is low. However, the detection rate is still alarming. That is why the administration is operating a mobile court along with raising awareness on coronavirus.”
