Law enforcers should not act unlawfully — SCBA President

Newly elected Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru on Sunday said that members of the law enforcing agencies should not act unlawfully. He asked if they act illegally, what the real law breakers will do?
The former Law Minister said this while giving speech in a protest rally organized by the general lawyers of the Supreme Court on the court premises on Sunday afternoon over the arrest and torture of a lawyer, Ibrahim Khalil.
The SCBA leader assured the lawyers present in the rally that a case would be filed against the persons who will be found involved in arresting the lawyer from the Supreme Court premises and torturing him.
He also called upon the Home Minister and the IGP to identify the culprits for giving exemplary punishment.
Abdul Matin Khasru said, “It cannot be tolerable that the law enforcers will arrest and torture a lawyer from the Supreme Court boundary. It is a criminal offence.”
“If he had committed a crime, law enforcers could have informed the Bar Association, or the chief justice. It was not appropriate to arrest him from the court premises. It is illegal, it is audacity, it is an unforgivable crime,” added the lawyer.
Addressing the Home Minister the lawyers’ leader also said, “No one will be saved if the lawyers of Bangladesh awaken. We will not leave it, we cannot leave it. The lawyers of Bangladesh are united.”
