BGB foils BSF bid to push-in eight

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday said it had thwarted an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push eight people into Bangladesh through the Kushtia border.

The incident, according to a BGB, occurred at around 5:10 am in the area adjacent to border pillar 152/1-S under the jurisdiction of the Joypur Border Outpost (BOP) of Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB).

BGB claimed that members of the BSF’s 146 Battalion from the Char Meghna camp attempted to send eight unidentified individuals into Bangladesh by making them swim across the river.

The group comprised two men, four women and two transgender persons.
A BGB patrol detected the alleged attempt immediately and prevented the group from entering Bangladesh, the statement said.

Faced with what BGB described as its firm stance, the individuals were forced to return to the Indian side through the river, successfully preventing the alleged push in attempt.

BGB said it remains on high alert to prevent all forms of illegal border crossings and violations of border laws.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, Commanding Officer of Kushtia Battalion that BGB continues to carry out its duties with professionalism, vigilance and responsibility to ensure border security and maintain peace and order in frontier areas.
